Mince and Tatties
Blind Leather Trust Nation Jacket Freaky Black I dinna like hail tatties
Pit on my plate o mince
For when I tak my denner
I eat them baith at yince.

Sae mash and mix the tatties
Wi mince into the mashin,
And sic a tasty denner
Will aye be voted ‘Smashin!’

His bairn rhymes continue to delight Scots children, but he was also the author of poetry for adults, and an active promoter of the Scots language. His children's poems were collected in A Wale o Rhymes (Macdonald Publishers, 1989), and his Selected Poems 1925-1990  was published by Mercat Press in 1992.
